About the Role

We’re hiring engineers to help redefine how we build software through the use of AI.
In this role, you’ll explore, prototype, and apply AI techniques that directly improve developer productivity — from code generation and test automation to intelligent refactoring and release acceleration. You’ll bring these innovations to life in real product environments and partner with our Developer Platform team to scale them into the tools and systems used by engineers across Hims & Hers.

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you’ll operate with broad technical influence. You’ll lead special projects where AI-assisted engineering can deliver meaningful business impact, mentor teams on practical AI adoption, and help shape the long-term vision for how we build, test, and ship software faster and better.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role for builders who lead through experimentation, collaboration, and results.

You Will:

  • Lead by example. Apply AI-assisted development techniques to real-world product and platform challenges — such as code generation, test creation, static analysis, or dependency refactoring.

  • Partner across teams. Work with product engineers, DevOps, and the Development Platform team to integrate AI-driven workflows into existing systems and processes.

  • Scale success. Translate proven techniques into reusable platform services, SDKs, and frameworks that accelerate adoption across the entire engineering organization.

  • Drive special initiatives. Join tiger teams focused on high-impact efforts (e.g., codebase modernization, performance refactors, or CI/CD workflow automation) to demonstrate how AI can transform velocity and reliability.

  • Mentor and influence. Coach engineers on the effective and responsible use of AI in day-to-day development, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Shape the future of AI engineering. Contribute to the technical strategy for how AI integrates into our developer platform, engineering practices, and long-term product delivery roadmap.

You Have:

  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership with org-wide or company-wide impact.

  • Track record of influencing architecture and technical strategy across multiple groups or domains.

  • Strong hands-on coding skills and experience delivering production systems at scale.

  • Deep understanding of AI/ML tools and APIs (LLMs, code assistants, AI testing tools, etc.) and their practical application to developer workflows.

  • Backend or fullstack expertise in one or more of the following: backend technologies (Node.js, Kotlin, Java, Python, Go), frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, Next.js), or mobile (React Native, Swift, Kotlin/Android).

  • Demonstrated success using AI tools to improve engineering productivity, such as:

    • AI-assisted code generation or review

    • Automated test authoring and analysis

    • Intelligent refactoring or code quality tooling

    • Workflow orchestration with frameworks like LangChain, MCP, or similar pipelines

  • Experience with CI/CD workflows, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes), and developer platform tooling.

  • Proven ability to operationalize new engineering practices and measure their impact on team velocity and software reliability.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills — you elevate others through partnership and shared learning.

You'll Thrive Here If You:

  • Champion responsible AI adoption that accelerates delivery while ensuring long-term quality and maintainability.

  • Take initiative to identify systemic challenges and deliver solutions that raise the bar for the entire engineering organization.

  • Lead through action and example — you demonstrate new practices by building them.

  • Are passionate about using AI to make engineers faster and more creative,

  • Can translate complex AI concepts into practical tools and workflows for everyday developers.

  • Value pragmatism over hype, delivering measurable impact that compounds across the org.

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):

  • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles

  • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days

  • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave

  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)

  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution

  • Offsite team retreats

We are committed to building a workforce that reflects diverse perspectives and prioritizes ethics, wellness, and a strong sense of belonging. If you're excited about this role, we encourage you to apply—even if you're not sure if your background or experience is a perfect match.
