About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Project Engineer to lead construction, cleanroom installation, and facility enhancement projects across pharmaceutical compounding and warehousing operations in the UK. This role will be pivotal in coordinating design, construction, and installation activities — including cleanroom buildouts, office renovations, warehouse racking, and signage — ensuring full compliance with EU GMP Annex 1, ISPE, and MHRA requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering project execution and proven experience managing vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams (Safety, Operations, Quality, and Validation).

You Will:

Project Execution & Oversight:

  • Oversee and execute multiple capital and renovation projects including cleanroom construction, warehouse layout upgrades, office refurbishments, and racking or signage installations.

  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, budgets, and timelines ensuring scope, cost, and schedule adherence.

  • Conduct site supervision, contractor coordination, and progress inspections, maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

  • Lead commissioning and qualification readiness, supporting IQ/OQ/PQ documentation for cleanroom and utility installations.

  • Ensure full alignment with EU GMP Annex 1, Health & Safety Executive (HSE) construction standards, and company EHS protocols.

Design & Technical Coordination:

  • Participate in design and layout review meetings for cleanrooms, HVAC systems, material flow, and warehouse operations.

  • Coordinate with architects, mechanical/electrical consultants, and validation engineers to align technical specifications and design intent.

  • Review design documentation, drawings, and vendor submissions to ensure compliance with EU GMP, ISPE, and MHRA expectations.

  • Optimize layouts using AutoCAD and lean principles to enhance efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Vendor & Contractor Management:

  • Source, assess, and coordinate construction vendors, cleanroom installers, and equipment suppliers through all project phases.

  • Review and evaluate vendor proposals, bids, and FAT/SAT documentation for adherence to design and GMP standards.

  • Track punch list completion, deviation management, and change control through structured review processes.

  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and third parties to ensure timely project delivery and accountability.

Safety, Quality & Operations Collaboration:

  • Partner closely with Safety and Operations teams to uphold UK HSE and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM 2015) compliance.

  • Liaise with Quality Assurance and Validation teams to ensure facility readiness for regulatory inspections and audits.

  • Support operational readiness by coordinating shutdowns, changeovers, and commissioning activities in partnership with site leadership.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation: project charters, RFIs, meeting notes, change control logs, deviation reports, and as-built records.

  • Ensure engineering drawings and construction documentation align with ISPE guidelines.

  • Support validation documentation efforts for cleanrooms, HVAC, and critical utilities.

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.

  • 5+ years of experience delivering engineering or construction projects within pharmaceutical, life sciences, or cleanroom environments.

  • Proven experience with construction and equipment installations, and facility upgrades.

  • Working knowledge of: EU GMP Annex 1 and Annex 15 (Qualification & Validation), ISPE, MHRA Orange Guide, UK Building Regulations, and HSE/CDM 2015 compliance.

  • Strong understanding of GMP, validation lifecycle, and commissioning principles.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple contractors concurrently with strong attention to detail and field presence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in warehouse layout design, industrial racking systems, or facility automation projects.

  • Familiarity with building permit processes, planning submissions, and local authority compliance in the UK.

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):

  • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles

  • PTO and company holidays

  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)

  • RecogNation Anniversary Rewards

We are committed to building a workforce that reflects diverse perspectives and prioritizes ethics, wellness, and a strong sense of belonging. If you're excited about this role, we encourage you to apply—even if you're not sure if your background or experience is a perfect match.
