PlayOn is hiring a Director of Accounting to standardize, scale and automate core accounting operations. You’ll own the monthly close cadence, streamline AP and GL processes, and drive NetSuite automation to support continued growth.
You’ll lead a small, high-performing team of 6 across AP, cash, GL, fixed assets, intercompany consolidations, and payroll– standardizing workflows, tightening controls and improving working-capital visibility. You will report directly to the Chief Accounting Officer and partner closely with FP&A and the People Ops Team.
The ideal candidate is a builder-coach and experienced NetSuite user who has shortened close cycles and rolled out practical policies and procedures in a growth environment.
The Outcomes You’llDeliver
- Sustain a fast, clean close: Maintain a ≤8-business-day close(current state) supported by same-month account reconciliations; deliver a roadmap to ≤6 business days within 12 months.
- Automation & NetSuite excellence: Optimize dashboards, automated workflows/approvals, and key integrations to improve cycle times and data integrity.
- Operational control & policy: Maintain pragmatic, well-documented accounting policies, close checklists, and SoD/access controls that scale with growth.
Cash & payroll reliability: Coordinate banking/payments and cash positioning with Finance; deliver 100% on-time payroll.
In this role, you can expect toLead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of professional growth, collaboration, and accountability. Own the monthly close (GL, accruals, intercompany, fixed assets, consolidations) and process documentation. Run AP end-to-end (vendor onboarding, W-9/1099 readiness, 3-way match policy, disbursement controls Oversee the Payroll Manager: calendars, approvals, change control, multi-state compliance, benefits/401(k)/garnishments, and coordinate HR dataflow. Optimize NetSuite (COA, workflows/approvals, roles/permissions, saved searches, SuiteAnalytics); support sandbox testing and change control. Partner with FP&A on spend visibility and working-capital forecasting. To thrive in this role, you have Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance. 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with 5+ years leading teams and the monthly close in a growth or multi-entity environment. Hands-on NetSuite expertise (workflows, saved searches; implementation experience a plus). Multi-state payroll oversight experience (platforms like ADP/Paylocity/UKG), including taxes, benefits, and controls. Proven record accelerating the close, reducing manual work, and implementing automation across AP/AR/GL. High integrity, detail orientation, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
