Start Date: March 2024

Location: Newton, MA (preferred), Chapel Hill, NC, New York, NY, or Minneapolis, MN

Salary: Clinical Writer 1: $80,000-$90,000 or Clinical Writer 2: $90,000-$105,000, depending on experience and qualifications

Job Description:

As part of Well’s Health Content team, you’ll research, develop, and refine content into consumer-facing “stories” and produce intuitive, engaging health and wellness experiences for our diverse members who use the Well app. The content the Clinical Writer will write will be short-form and easy to understand but heavily research-based. The purpose of Well’s content is to inspire healthy changes, empower people with information, and build health literacy. This role requires experience covering science/health topics, mastery of the written language, a hefty dose of creativity and fun, and an understanding of human behavior and motivation to communicate a variety of health topics in the Well voice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, write, and review health and wellness content for the Well app.
  • Research and synthesize relevant clinical literature on health and wellness topics (e.g., diabetes, obesity, depression, grief, etc.). Simplify this research to convey educational messages while being approachable, original, and engaging.
  • Utilize behavioral techniques within the content to promote members’ motivational readiness, and/or self-efficacy. This includes optimizing opportunities for members to feel empowered and effective in improving health habits and managing chronic conditions.
  • Assist in reviewing, testing, and editing content prospectively and retrospectively.
  • Take an empathetic approach to understanding the tone of written work, knowing when it’s time (and not time) to crack a joke, play it serious, or keep it neutral.
  • Take personal responsibility for keeping all Well systems and data, including sensitive member data, secure and safe, according to Well data and security policies and HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in science writing/health journalism/medical communications or similar fields
  • Ability to dive deep into clinical literature and translate information to a wide audience
  • Interest in self efficacy theory and behavior change
  • Experience with professional, member-facing writing and/or editing
  • Flexible self-starter who is willing to learn, adjust, and adapt
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; open to feedback and guidance
  • HIghly collaborative and able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to produce high-quality, high-volume health content with minimal oversight
  • Meticulous and logical attention to detail, and able to manage deliverable timelines in accordance with project delivery process

Writing Samples:

After reviewing resumes, we will follow up with qualified candidates to request 3 to 5 published articles that show an ability to communicate complex research to a lay audience.
